There are many benefits to building a home based business, but I’m going to tell you about a few that might be considered the most important.

One benefit that you may not be aware of is the reduction in your tax liability.  Obviously, everyone’s tax situation is unique and you will want to discuss your specific situation with your tax specialist.  Generally speaking though, some things that are tax deductible: a portion of your rent/mortgage and utilities, office supplies and equipment, and mileage on your car, but there are many more.

Another benefit is flexibility.  When you own your own home based business you can set your own hours which means you can work around your family and a full time job.  Now this does not mean your business should be last on your list of priorities, but you decide when you are going to work.  Most women can build a successful home base business in 5-15 hours a week.

You are your own boss.  You decide how you are going to work your business.  You advance at your own pace.  You don’t have to wait for someone to die or retire to reach the level of success that you desire. Read the rest of this entry

It IS possible…

March Forth…because it’s possible.  It really is possible.

This video was made in the 80s (I’m pretty sure based on the fashion sense of the audience but I could be mistaken-LOL).  But I believe that the words he speaks are timeless.  We are facing terrible economic and financial times with no end in sight.  I’ve heard some reliable sources say that we are about to witness the greatest transfer of wealth in history.

Dream delayed or dream denied?

I started this blog about four months ago.  This first month it seemed fairly easy to add posts but as time passed it seemed to get harder.  So hard, in fact, that as I sit here typing I honestly could not tell you the date of my last entry.  The funny thing is that it’s not that I do not have valuable information to share with you or that I’m not good at writing.  Because I do and I am!  What is the problem you ask?  Keep reading.

Get Out of the Daily Grind

Happy Tuesday!  In some places, we celebrated Labor Day yesterday.  For most of us, that meant enjoying the last long weekend of summer.  If that was you then today you are going back to work, probably the daily grind of commuting in your car or on a bus, spending eight or more hours in an office and then commuting home to ‘work’ some more depending on if you have a spouse, kids, pets, additional responsibilities, etc. only to go to sleep and do it again tomorrow, and the day after that, and the next day, over and over again.

Maintaining Your Customer Base

It’s a fact that many businesses lose their customers because of neglect.  Don’t let this happen to you.  When you introduce a customer to your products, you have an obligation to do two things:

  • Make sure your customer is properly using her products.
  • Make sure her product use is not interrupted.  In other words, do not allow the customer to run out of any item.

Do You Have Bounce Back Ability (BBA)?

What is Bounce Back Ability you ask?  It is the ability to fall down, get right back up and try again.  It is the ability to pivot when things don’t go as planned.  Why is this so important you ask?  Ask Thomas Edison, Hank Aaron or Michael Jordan.  They focused on their goals and did not let temporary setbacks stop them.

It is okay to try and fall down, but you must get back up and try again.  This is especially true when you are building a home based business.  Building a home based business is NOT easy.  Let me say that again–it is not easy.  However, in most cases IT IS SIMPLE.  You may be wondering–is there difference?  The word ‘easy’ means with little or no effort.  The word ‘simple’ means not complicated.  Building a business is NOT complicated but it does take effort, focus, determination, perseverance and a positive attitude.

Time Management

Time management is extremely important especially when building a home based business.  Successful people have mastered the skill of time management and the art form of delegating tasks.  We all have the same 24 hours each day and trust me I know that you wake up with the best of intentions and then you realize it’s 9:00 pm and you’re not sure what happened to your day.  Here are some basic tips to being a successful time manager.

First, every night before you go to sleep make a list of the most important tasks that must be done the next day.  I was always told that six is the magic number (more than that can seem overwhelming).  I make two lists: one for personal and one for business.  I write down all of the tasks and then prioritize them.  Don’t put all the easy ones first.  List them in order of importance, most important first.

Second, I use a GOOD planner.  I use a planner that has a full month at a glance and then each day.  I was advised to go through the entire year every January and mark any obvious, recurring or important dates like anniversaries, birthdays, vacations, family reunions, etc.  For instance, I know someone whose family has their reunion every first weekend of July.  Also, most schools publish a yearly calendar so every August when I receive it I make a note of all holiday breaks and random days when there is no school.  After that I tackle every month at a time.  I go through 4-6 weeks at a time and mark down personal appointments, activities that I want to attend.  And then I go through and mark down when I want to work my business.  So for me personally, I work my business Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  Every once in a while something comes up and I switch days but usually those are days to work.  Figure out what works for you and your situation.
